Violence- When someone uses force to attack other people and try to hurt or kill them
On the rise- Increasing number of, in this question, violent cases
My stand- Yes, violence is indeed on the rise. This could be due to factors like the increasing number of violent shows and movies, bad examples set up seniors and neglection of children.
Opening paragraph
Times flies. As the world around us develops, technology is ever improving and things are changing for the better. However, it has come to my attention that there is this worrying trend of violence being on the rise. Everyday, when i look through the pages of the newspaper, i can easily identify several articles reporting on acts of violence being displayed by people of all ages without fail. This puzzles me and makes me question whether the people in our society are losing our discipline and changing for the worse. Why is it that this is happening?
Reasons
1) Increasing number of violent shows, movies
- Shows, movies are increasingly having a larger extent of violence in them
- In a bid to up the excitement in shows and movies to thrill the audience, directors are unknowingly causing harm.
- Televisions and movie screens are considered 'universal tools for education' and easily influence the audience.
- Audience, particularly young and immatured ones, would take characters as examples, and act out particular scenes, and unwittinly violence is naturally instilled in them.
2) Bad examples by seniors, family background
- Seniors, supposedly more matured, are not setting good examples
- Some violent fathers, often beat up kids and wife when drunk, right in front of young children.
- To add to that, parents are increasingly using violence to educate their children on the rights and wrongs of life.
- As can be seen, children now are being exposed more to violence and coming from these kinds of family backgrounds would make them assume that it is right to use violence.
3) Neglection of children
- Parents nowadays are getting more career-minded, neglecting children by going to work from day to night, hardly spending time with them.
- There is no one to care for them, and to teach what is right and worng.
- As they are increasingly exposed to violence, being unable to differentiate what is wrong in their life and surroundings and unwittingly would cost them and direct them to make wrong choices.
- They would too feel lonely and might hang out with people who are violent and exert a negative influence on them.
Conclusion
Basically, i do feel, in my opinion, that violence is indeed on the rise and this is a worrying trend. This is probably due to factors like the increasing number of violent movies and shows, bad examples set by seniors and family background, neglection of children by parents. This is unacceptable and i feel that the government should take action to stop this and prevent it from getting worse, or it could escalate into something huge.
